SYRTIS
sir'-tis (surtis): versioni e rishikuar (britanike dhe amerikane) për "rërat e shpejta" në Veprat [Vepr 27:17 ]. Këto banka rëre, në brigjet veriore të Afrikës, që nga kohët e hershme janë konsideruar si një burim rreziku për marinarët. Virgjili i referohet atyre (Aen. iv.40). Në udhëtimin e Palit, anija, e shtyrë nga një erë e fortë, Euraquilo, ishte në rrezik të hidhej mbi to.

Quicksands
found only in (Acts 27:17), the rendering of the Greek Syrtis. On the north coast of Africa were two localities dangerous to sailors, called the Greater and Lesser Syrtis. The former of these is probably here meant. It lies between Tripoli and Barca, and near Cyrene. The Lesser Syrtis lay farther to the west.
