SYRTIS
sir'-tis (surtis): forma e Versionit të Rishikuar (Britanike dhe Amerikane) për "rërat e shpejta" në Vepr 27:17 ]">Vepr 27:17 . Këto rëra, jashtë bregut verior të Afrikës, janë konsideruar që nga kohët e hershme si një burim rreziku për marinarët. Virgjili i referohet atyre (Aen. iv.40). Në udhëtimin e Palit, anija, e shtyrë nga një erë e stuhishme, Euraquilo, ishte në rrezik të hidhej mbi to.

Quicksands
found only in (Acts 27:17), the rendering of the Greek Syrtis. On the north coast of Africa were two localities dangerous to sailors, called the Greater and Lesser Syrtis. The former of these is probably here meant. It lies between Tripoli and Barca, and near Cyrene. The Lesser Syrtis lay farther to the west.
