1. Osmý syn Jakobův ze Zilfy, služebnice Líy [Gn 30,13 ; Gn 35,26 ]. Hranice území tohoto pokolení táhla se od pohoří Karmélu na sv podél Středozemního moře. Území sousedilo na jihu s územím Ma-nassesovým, na vých. s územím Zabulon a Neftalím. Hranice a města jsou vylíčena v [Joz 19,24 - Joz 19,31 ; Joz 17,10 - Joz 17,11 ; Sd 1,31 - Sd 1,32 ]. Poloha tohoto kraje měla tu přednost, že úzkou částí svého pomezí přiléhal k mořskému břehu [Sd 1,31 ; Sd 5,17 ]. Byla zde nejúrodnější půda z celé Palestiny. Dařilo se tu zvláště olivám. Na pokolení Asserovu spočívalo požehnání *Jakobovo [Gn 49,20 ] i Mojžíšovo [Dt 33,24 ]. Asser měl 4 syny a jednu dceru [Gn 46,17 ; 1Pa 7,30 ]. Ale úrodnost území a snad i blízkost Feničanů způsobily, že se celé pokolení brzy zvrhlo, smísivši se s praobyvateli země.

3. Asser [v hebr. psáno jinak než 1. a 2., česky zajatec, vězeň, anebo zkomolenina jména egyptského božstva Osiris], syn Chore, narozený v Egyptě [Ex 6,24 ]. Karafiát má správnější Assir. Kraličtí nedůsledně v [1Pa 6,22 ] čtou také *Assir, ač jde o touž osobu jako v [Ex 6,24 ].

happy, Jacob's eigth son; his mother was Zilpah, Leah's handmaid (Gen 30:13 ). Of the tribe founded by him nothing is recorded beyond its holding a place in the list of the tribes (Gen 35:26 ; 46:17; Ex 1:4 ), etc. It increased in numbers twenty-nine percent, during the thirty-eight years' wanderings. The place of this tribe during the march through the desert was between Dan and Naphtali (Num 2:27 ). The boundaries of the inheritance given to it, which contained some of the richest soil in Palestine, and the names of its towns, are recorded in (Josh 19:24-31; Judg 1:31; 1:32). Asher and Simeon were the only tribes west of the Jordan which furnished no hero or judge for the nation. Anna the prophetess was of this tribe (Luke 2:36).
