Beskrivelse
Et sted øst for Jordan i området til Gad-stammen [Dom 10:17 ; Dom 11:11 , Dom 11:29 ], muligvis identisk med Masphe [Jos 13:26 ], også kaldet Ramot i Gilead [5Mos 4:43 ; 1Kong 4:31 ; 2Kong 8:28 ] eller simpelthen Rama [2Kong 8:29 ]. Det blev tildelt levitterne [Jos 21:38 ] og omdannet til en tilflugtsby [5Mos 4:43 ; Jos 20:8 ]. Jefta boede engang her [Dom 11:34 ], og under Salomons regeringstid var det hjemsted for en af landets 12 skatteembedsmænd [1Kong 4:13 ]. Det faldt i hænderne på de syriske konger [1Kong 22:3 ff; 2Kong 8:28 ]. Under de makkabæiske krige blev det erobret og ødelagt af Judas Makkabæus. Det var placeret et sted ved Jabbok-floden.

Ramath-mizpeh
the height of Mizpeh or of the watch-tower (Josh 13:26), a place mentioned as one of the limits of Gad. There were two Mizpehs on the east of the Jordan. This was the Mizpeh where Jacob and Laban made a covenant, "Mizpeh of Gilead," called also Galeed and Jegar-sahadutha. It has been identified with the modern es-Salt, where the roads from Jericho and from Shechem to Damascus unite, about 25 miles east of the Jordan and 13 south of the Jabbok.
