Baal-shalishah

Description

Balsalisa [2Kgs 4:42 ], a place whose name clearly expresses its cultic character. From there, "bread of the first fruits" was brought to Elisha in Gilgal to feed the members of the prophetic school. It is very likely closely related to the otherwise unknown "land of Shalisha" [1Sam 9:4 ], through which Saul passes on his way to the unnamed city to Samuel. B.
