Greece
Description
Greece was a significant eastern province of the Roman Empire, as evidenced by the designation of the Roman state's culture as Greco-Roman culture. Greek served for centuries as the lingua franca of the East and Italy, and for Roman elites, it was completely natural to master Greek in addition to Latin until the time of late antiquity.
Like much of the Roman Orient, Greece came under increasing influence of Christianity from the first centuries AD. Apostle Paul preached in Corinth and Athens, and Greece very quickly became one of the most Christianized parts of the empire.
