Capua

Description

The original city was probably founded by the Etruscans around 600 BC, 4 km southeast of the current city, where Santa Maria Capua Vetere is located today. Old Capua was abandoned in the 9th century after the invasion of the Saracens and was soon restored by the Lombards. There is a bridge from Roman times in the city, as well as a medieval cathedral and a castle. The famous Roman road Via Appia ended in the city.
