説明
「ヨルダンの向こうのベタニヤ」（ヨハ 1:28）；欽定訳聖書ではベタバラ；ベタバラは、多数の写本に対する読みで、地理的な理由からオリゲネスによって支持されている）：そのような場所は知られていない。グローブは、意図された場所はベテ・ニムラ（参照）であり、現代のテル・ニムリンであると提案した。この場所は非常に適しているが、（ヨハ 1:28）と一致させるのは難しい；（ヨハ 2:1）と比較。伝統的な場所はエリコの東の渡し場である。

Bethabara
house of the ford, a place on the east bank of the Jordan, where John was baptizing (John 1:28). It may be identical with Bethbarah, the ancient ford of Jordan of which the men of Ephraim took possession (Judg 7:24). The Revised Version reads "Bethany beyond Jordan." It was the great ford, and still bears the name of "the ford," Makhadhet 'Abarah, "the ford of crossing over," about 25 miles from Nazareth. (See BETH-BARAH)
