SYRTIS
sir'-tis (surtis): versi Revisi (British dan American) untuk "pasir hisap" dalam [Kis 27:17 ]. Bank pasir ini, di lepas pantai utara Afrika, sejak zaman dahulu dianggap sebagai sumber bahaya bagi pelaut. Virgil merujuk kepada mereka (Aen. iv.40). Dalam pelayaran Paulus, kapal yang didorong oleh angin ribut, Euraquilo, berada dalam bahaya terhempas ke atasnya.

Quicksands
found only in (Acts 27:17), the rendering of the Greek Syrtis. On the north coast of Africa were two localities dangerous to sailors, called the Greater and Lesser Syrtis. The former of these is probably here meant. It lies between Tripoli and Barca, and near Cyrene. The Lesser Syrtis lay farther to the west.
