TAVERNE, TREI
tavernă: Trei Taverne (latin Tres Tabernae, greacă transliterată treis tabernai; Cicero Ad Att. i.13; ii.12, 13) era o stație pe Drumul Appian la borna kilometrică 33 (301/3 mile englezești de Roma), conform Itinerariilor Imperiului Roman (Itin. Ant. vii; Tab. Peut.; Geogr. Rav. iv.34), un punct de convergență al traficului la intersecția unui drum de la Antium la Norba. Tripontium, la 6 mile pe Drumul Appian în direcția Forumului Appii, era considerat punctul unde autostrada intra în regiunea mlaștinilor Pontine, cea mai notabilă caracteristică naturală a acestei părți a Italiei.
Grupuri de frați creștini din Roma au ieșit să-l întâmpine pe apostolul Pavel când s-a adus vestea că a ajuns la Puteoli, un grup mergând până la Forumul Appii, în timp ce altul aștepta venirea sa la Trei Taverne [Fap 28:15 ].

Taverns, The three
a place on the great "Appian Way," about 11 miles from Rome, designed for the reception of travellers, as the name indicates. Here Paul, on his way to Rome, was met by a band of Roman Christians (Acts 28:15). The "Tres Tabernae was the first mansio or mutatio, that is, halting-place for relays, from Rome, or the last on the way to the city. At this point three roads run into the Via Appia, that from Tusculum, that from Alba Longa, and that from Antium; so necessarily here would be a halting-place, which took its name from the three shops there, the general store, the blacksmith's, and the refreshment-house...Tres Tabernae is translated as Three Taverns, but it more correctly means three shops" (Forbes's Footsteps of St. Paul, p.20).
