SYRTIS
sir'-tis (surtis): različica revidirane izdaje (britanske in ameriške) za "plitvine" v [Apd 27:17 ]. Te peščene plitvine ob severni obali Afrike so že od nekdaj veljale za nevarnost za mornarje. Vergil jih omenja (Aen. iv.40). Med Pavlovim potovanjem je bila ladja, ki jo je poganjal viharni veter, Evrakilon, v nevarnosti, da bi se nasedla na njih.

found only in (Acts 27:17), the rendering of the Greek Syrtis. On the north coast of Africa were two localities dangerous to sailors, called the Greater and Lesser Syrtis. The former of these is probably here meant. It lies between Tripoli and Barca, and near Cyrene. The Lesser Syrtis lay farther to the west.
